Dry January: another month of no beer, wine or drink. Thousands of people plan to spend the entire month of January without a drop of alcohol. They participate in IkPas, a campaign to make people aware of their habitual behavior around alcohol. The challenge is also known as Dry January.
Dry January was conceived in the United Kingdom, but the challenge has since spread to other countries. In the Netherlands, the action is supported by GGD, municipalities and organizations against addiction. According to the site, more than 14,000 people have already registered. “We are not asking you to never drink alcohol again, but to put your alcohol consumption on hold for a while,” the site reads.
IkPas has several challenges throughout the year, such as 'short dry' and '40 days without a drop'. The organization also encourages people to take on a self-chosen challenge. The site contains tips and reasons why an alcohol break can't hurt at all.
