In the picturesque Nittel, located on the southern Moselle near the border with Luxembourg, is Weingut Hubertus M. Apel. A family business that has been continuously active in wine growing since 1477. What started as a trading company under the great-grandfather, grew into a fully-fledged wine estate under the leadership of Hubertus Matthias and his wife Elfriede. Since 1988, their sons Harald and Hubert have further modernized the company, and in 2016 the fourth generation – Philip, Johannes and Matthias – joined the family business.

The estate is situated on steep slopes with a south-southwest orientation and calcareous soils, which provide optimal growing conditions for the vines. The terroir, influenced by the heat storage capacity of the limestone and the sunlight reflection of the Mosel, contributes to the unique characteristics of the wines.

Weingut Apel is known for its specialization in Elbling and Burgunder (Pinot) varieties. The Elbling, one of Germany's oldest grape varieties, is proudly cultivated here. In addition, they also produce high-quality Weißburgunder, Grauburgunder and Spätburgunder, which are known for their fine minerality and elegant structure.

With a harmonious combination of centuries-old tradition and modern winegrowing techniques, Weingut Hubertus M. Apel offers an authentic wine experience that perfectly reflects the essence of the southern Mosel.
