We visited these concepts during the Foodwalk in Amsterdam

1. World of Nix

More and more consumers want to enjoy a drink without experiencing the negative effects of alcohol. There is a shift in the market: more and more people are choosing non-alcoholic options . For example, non-alcoholic beer now accounts for 8% of the total beer category in the Netherlands. Entrepreneur Wim Boekema is responding to this changing demand. After the success of his online webshop, he opened the first non-alcoholic liquor store in the Netherlands in Haarlem in 2021: World of Nix.

World of Nix has a wide range of non-alcoholic drinks. From non-alcoholic wines, elixirs and spirits to sparkling teas. According to Boekema, non-alcoholic gin, rum and vodka are interesting for hospitality entrepreneurs to put on the menu, because consumers are willing to pay a relatively high price for them. World of Nix offers hospitality entrepreneurs special purchase prices that are lower than the retail prices. Restaurant Ron Gastrobar* by Ron Blaauw, for example, put together a non-alcoholic drinks menu together with World of Nix. The restaurant offers this 0.0 menu in addition to its regular menu.

Boekema sees a growth in 'zebra drinking', alternating between alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks on the same evening. Boekema also sees opportunities for the hospitality industry.
