Alcohol carcinogenic? Many people do not know the dangers.
Research by the Trimbos Institute shows that people are still insufficiently aware of the risk of cancer associated with alcohol consumption. In 2022, the knowledge institute conducted a random sample of almost 6,000 Dutch people to assess awareness of alcohol damage among adults.
This shows that six in ten Dutch people do not know that alcohol consumption increases the risk of cancer. According to the Dutch Cancer Society, alcohol can increase the risk of seven types of cancer. Alcohol is the culprit in 1 in 10 cancer cases in men, and 1 in 33 in women.
