Apple Crumble

Apple Crumble

Ingredients

  • 2 large apples (e.g. Elstar or Granny Smith), peeled and diced
  • 1 tablespoon sugar or honey
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • Pinch of nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 50 grams of flour
  • 30 grams of cold butter, cubed
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • pinch of salt
  • Optional: a handful of chopped nuts, such as almonds or walnuts

Preparation method

  1. Mix the apple cubes with the sugar or honey, cinnamon, nutmeg and lemon juice in a bowl and mix well.
  2. Mix the flour, cold butter, brown sugar and a pinch of salt in a bowl. Rub the butter into the flour mixture with your fingers or a fork until it has a crumbly texture. Add chopped nuts for extra crunch if desired.
  3. Divide the apple filling between two small oven dishes and sprinkle the crumble topping over it. Bake the apple crumble in a preheated oven at 180 °C for 20-25 minutes, until the top is golden brown and the apples are soft.
  4. Allow the crumble to cool briefly, but serve warm for the best taste.
